Speedmaster Snoopy

In 2003 Omega decided to issue a special series of the Speedmaster, a tribute to the Snoopy Award received by the NASA on October 5, 1970 in recognition of brand’s contributions to space exploration including the Apollo XIII mission. Only 5.441 pieces produced, a number deriving from the timing of that mission: 142 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds. More or less a standard Moonwatch with a Snoopy patch at 9 o’clock and a special polychrome enamel disc placed in the outer case back. Failure is not an option”, said Gene Kranz, the Flight Director of the Apollo 13 Mission. An emblematic phrase, that leads us immediately at the very heart of the new Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award, where a sleeping Snoopy positioned in the register at 9 o’clock says the words, that are printed at the center of the dial.

Omega was also very playful with Super-LumiNova on this second Speedmaster Snoopy from 2015. The case back is where the magic happens though, with the silver Snoopy lapel pin replica on a background of blue enamel. Sprinkled with silver powder. These case backs were hand-made, and that gave them each a unique look. It also took a while before all 1,970 pieces were delivered. The 50th anniversary Silver Snoopy Award (produced in 2020 not limited edition) The silver dial has blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands, as well as an embossed silver Snoopy medallion on the blue sub dial at 9 o’clock. On the NAIAD LOCK case back, a vision of the far side of the moon has been decorated on the sapphire crystal using micro-structured metallization.

An animated Snoopy in his command and Service Module (CSM) is shown on a magical hand, which rotates when the Chronograph function is used. Behind, an Earth disc rotates once per minute in sync with the watch’s small second’s hand. Along with black engravings on the case back in tribute to Apollo 13 and OMEGA's Silver Snoopy Award, there is also a blue ceramic bezel ring with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The non-limited watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 3861 and comes in a special presentation box.
